Barrister Marshall Katung floors Senator Danjuma Laah, picks Kaduna South PDP Senate ticket.

The move by Senator Danjuma Tella Laah representing Kaduna South Senatorial District to secure the PDP ticket for a third term on Tuesday hit the rocks as Barrister Sunday Katung Marshall beat him down at the Senate primary election.

Barrister Katung who was the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 2019 election floored Senator Laah with a landslide 112 votes, while Laah staggered behind with 74 votes, in a keenly contested election conducted at the Kafanchan Township Stadium.

Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Honourable Shehu Nicholas Garba Shehu Sarkinnoma came third with 52 votes. While Member representing Jaba State Constituency, Honourable Monday Dikko got 21 votes, Honourable Jagaba Adams Jagaba came last with 7 votes, but the duo of Barrister Mark Jacob and Zachariah Suleiman Dauke scored zero votes.

The Returning Officer, Honourable MH Sabo Babayaro therefore declared Sunday Marshall Katung  winner of the PDP Senate primary election.

A total of 269 delegates where accredited and all voted, while three invalid votes were recorded.

Commenting on the election, one of the contestants, Zachariah Suleiman Dauke described the process as free, fair and credible and expressed his commitment towards giving full support for the PDP to win the general elections at all levels.
