Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade says he will contest for President in 2023 after President Muhammadu Buhari gave him approval.
Speaking to reporters after he met with President Buhari on Tuesday at the State House in Abuja, Ayade said the President has asked him to make necessary consultations on the matter with his people while he watches.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, has announced his intention to withdraw from the presidential race in the All Progressives Congress (APC), if it not zoned exclusively to the South-East.
The former Abia State Governor who made the announcement on Tuesday in a post on his verified Instagram page, explained that there was no point in joining the contest without the full support of other regions.
Kalu faulted the declaration by the non-Igbo politicians in the South – not just within the APC but the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – who have announced their interest in the highest office of the land.
