PERL appeals to Kaduna State House of Assembly

The Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn (PERL), has appealed to the Kaduna State House of Assembly to pass a resolution to ratify three bills for the autonomy of the State Legislature, Judiciary; financial and administrative autonomy of Local Governments in the ongoing constitution amendment process.
Head of Secretariat, Local Government Accountability Mechanism, (LGAM), Yusuf Goje, made the appeal at a press conference on Thursday after a one-day advocacy session in Kaduna, with multi-stakeholders drawn from NULGE, NLC, women political groups, Civil Societies, the media and Active Citizens in Kaduna state, to lobby and influence the lawmakers for the ratification of the bills.
On her part, former House of Representative Member, representing Kaura Federal Constituency, Honourable Florence Aya, who spoke under Women Mentoring, said the advocacy was timely and worth pursuing.
Also speaking, the State Secretary of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Haliru Suleiman, said it was high time the State Assemblies in the country ratified, especially the local government autonomy bill for smooth and inclusive governance.
The multi-stakeholders’ platform intends to embark on advocacy visits to Kaduna State Legislators, critical stakeholders and professional groups, including; the media, to influence the State Assembly members to ratify the bills which have been duly transmitted to them by the National Assembly as part of the constitution amendment process.
