Technician jailed 8 months for stealing phone.

A Karu Upper Area Court, sitting in Abuja on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old technician, Nathaniel Jeremiah, to eight months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

The convict, who resides in Kari, pleaded guilty to criminal breach of trust, cheating and extortion.

The judge, Ishaq Hassan, however granted the convict an option of 20,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing such crimes.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Olarewaju Osho told the court that the complainant, Pascal Umbah of Nyanya, Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police on April 7.

He said the complainant on Feb. 10, misplaced his Techno phone, worth 35,000 naira in Sun City, Abuja and was picked up by one Victor Ekpo.

Osho said that Ekpo gave the phone to the convict to unlock it to enable him call the owner.

However, with intent to cheat,he said instead of unlocking the phone, the convict ran away with it.

The offence, he said, is punishable under sections 312, 322 and 292 of the Penal Code
