Britain’s Andy Murray beat Argentine Federico Delbonis in the first round of the Miami Open to set up a meeting with Daniil Medvedev, who lost the world number one ranking on Monday.
34-year-old Murray, who is a two-time winner of the Miami Open, won the match against Delbonis in straight sets: 7-6; (7-4); 6-1.
Three-time Grand Slam winner; Murray has not won back-to-back matches since the Sydney Classic in January, losing in the second round at Indian Wells last week.
Medvedev, who is a Russian, spent three weeks at number one and must reach the semi-finals in Miami to again replace Serbian Novak Djokovic at the top of the men’s game.
