Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, says there is a need for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to implement online examinations and on-screen marking.
Professor Osinbajo said this, in Abuja, while declaring open the Annual Council Meeting and the 70th anniversary of WAEC.
According to him, a shift from offline to online examinations would reduce the current overall logistics costs and break geographic barriers, thereby enabling a wider reach and participation.
He praised the council, saying that over the years more than 90 percent of educated adults in the English-speaking West African countries were products of WAEC, one way or the other.
While saying that the Nigerian Government would continue to support the examination body, Professor Osinbajo commended Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia for participating in the meeting.
