Thirty-one evacuees from Ukraine return to Nigeria

The seventh batch of Nigerian evacuees from Ukraine have arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

They arrived on Monday morning aboard a Turkish airline, after being airlifted from Romania, where they had fled following the war in Ukraine.

The evacuees numbering thirty-one were received by officials of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), and the Refugee Commission.

Report says that this is the second set of evacuees from Romania, following Russia’s attack on Ukraine which has displaced many people.

However, unlike the previous batches of returnees that arrived via chartered flights, the thirty-one evacuees arrived on a commercial flight.

A representative of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs told newsmen that the reason the Federal Government used a commercial flight was that the returnees were few in number.
