Africa Desertification Control Initiative Nigeria organizes one-day capacity training for beneficiaries of the organized Community Interest Group (CIG).

Africa Desertification Control Initiative Nigeria, on Tuesday, organised a one-day capacity training for beneficiaries of the organised Community Interest Group (CIG) where the Kaduna State Nigeria Erosion Watershed Project (NEWMAP) is situated.
The Focal Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) consultant for Kad-NEWMAP, Umar Danladi Dahiru, who spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the event, said NEWMAP does not only focus on erosion management, but also agricultural empowerment for farmers.
According to Dahiru, the beneficiaries, who would receive free farming machines such as; Maize Threshers, Ginger Processing Machines and Rice Milling Machines, were selected from eight Local Government Areas of Kaduna, namely; Giwa, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Kagarko, Lere, Zaria and Zangon Kataf.
Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator, Kad-NEWMAP, Mr. Jibril Dahiru Rufai, said the aim of the training was to sustain the NEWMAP project and to also enhance the livelihood of local farmers in Kaduna State.
Some of the participants, who spoke to newsmen, thanked the Kaduna State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources for the opportunity and also the organizers of the training, which took place at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Kaduna.
Report says that NEWMAP is a World Bank assisted project aimed at addressing the Nigerian gully erosion crisis in the southeast and land degradation in the north on a multi-dimensional scale.
