The Petroleum Tanker Drivers branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) have suspended their planned strike.
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, disclosed this in Abuja after a stakeholders’ meeting.
It would be recalled that the groups had threatened to go on strike over claims of diversion of the 621-billion-naira road fund provided by the NNPC and the government’s failure to increase the freight rate for transporting petrol.
The NNPC said it provided updates on the current status of the road construction and rehabilitation projects under the road infrastructure tax credit scheme.
The Corporation also said a committee has been set up to review the rates and that members of the group included; PTD, NARTO and NUPENG, and other stakeholders.
