More than one hundred people have died in landslides and flash flooding in the Brazilian city of Petropolis.

Officials, who disclosed this, said that the city, which is located in the mountains north of Rio de Janeiro, was hit by heavy rainfall.

Houses in hillside neighborhoods were also destroyed and cars swept away as floodwaters entered the city’s streets.

Brazil’s National Civil Defense, which said that twenty-four people had been rescued alive by Wednesday night local time, added that search and rescue teams are still searching for survivors.
