Jota scored from close range in the 34th minute after Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel parried Virgil van Dijk’s header.

He then fired in from a Joel Matip pass in the 87th to make it 2-0 and hand Liverpool the win and ensure they are back within nine points of leaders Manchester City with a game in hand.

The Reds were without Sadio Mane following his late return from the Africa Cup of Nations while Jurgen Klopp left Mohamed Salah on the match.
