VAW: Kaduna Women share sad tales of abuse.
Written by News Room on December 10, 2021
More awareness, sensitization and pleas are being raised on the plight of violence against women in light of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence which is an annual international campaign looking at Elimination of Violence against Women, a cross section of women have been sharing their experiences.
Speaking with Invicta News correspondent, Evangeline Genesis, a business owner who identified herself as Miss. Blessing talked about domestic violence in her marriage.
A lady, who spoke anonymously, said she was battered by an older man for offering to help him.
Another spoke on the stigma associated with leaving a matrimonial home as a woman and advised people to stop shaming women whose marriages failed.
To see to the end of this experience, the United Nations Secretary-General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women campaign (UNiTE campaign) has called for global actions to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations.
For now, it remains a dream if Women who speak up and share their experiences can be heard, actions activated and as the campaign ends on the 10th of December, 2021 with the “Orange the world: End violence against women now!”, everyone has a role to play in taming this scourge.
