The Federal Government has inaugurated a vulnerability audit of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) custodial centres across the country.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, whilst inaugurating the audit said its report will identify the fault lines in the security setup and penetration levels of the custodial centres.

in a statement by Media Adviser to the Minister of Interior, Sola Fasure, the minister was quoted as saying that the vulnerability audit they have inaugurated today will identify the weakness in the security setup and will help to put in place an effective structure to assist in better securing the facilities against future external aggression.

Reacting to the exercise to be carried out by the NCoS, the Controller General of the Service, CG Haliru Nababa, noted that teams will be inaugurated in each of the geopolitical zones and an interim report submitted in the next one week.

The move comes in the wake of incidents of prison breaks across the country – the most recent being that of the Abolongo Custodial Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in Oyo state.
