The Federal Government has threatened to deal decisively with criminal elements who are bent on scuttling next month’s governorship election in Anambra.

The National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), gave the warning during a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja.

It would be recalled that the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, had declared a one-week sit-at-home across the South-East region beginning from November 5 unless its detained leader Nnamdi Kanu was released before November 4.

The NSA appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff not to be discouraged by the challenges they will face during the election but to give their best.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, affirmed that the Commission was ready for the elections, having completed 12 out of the 14 activities listed in its timetable and schedule of activities for the election as agreed in January.

Yakubu later introduced two national commissioners who were sworn by the president, they are a Professor of Political Science at the Ekiti State University Kunle Cornelius Ajayi, and a retired Professor of Ecology and Range Management at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Muhammad Sani Kallah, representing the South West and North West geo-political zones respectively.
