Nigeria has no cause to celebrate Democracy Day – Kaduna PDP

Written by on June 14, 2021

The Main opposition PDP in Kaduna State has said that the people have no cause to celebrate Democracy Day, as the inhuman policies being pursue by the Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai, couple with worsening insecurity, is making the state hostile for human existence and business activities.
In a statement titled, 2021 Democracy Day: Tasking APC Government in Kaduna State on Dividends of Democracy, the PDP said Celebrating Democracy Day in the state is like giving failure a nod, as bandits are holding sway over territories in the state, regretting that the political history of the APC-led government in the state in the past six years, has been dominated by anti-people policies, militia activities, banditry and kidnapping for ransom.
The statement signed by the state PDP Publicity Secretary, Abraham Albera Catoh, said the rate at which people are been killed appears as if we don’t have a proactive government but, very quick in issuing empty statements provoking the bandits, which has helped to worsened the situation.
According to the PDP, apart from Governor el-Rufai daring the bandits when he said, he will not negotiate with bandits, in a much touted statement, the wife of the  governor, Hajiya Asia el-Rufai also dared them that she would rather die than pay ransom to kidnappers, which the PDP said infuriates the bandit for kidnapping and killing spree in all parts of Kaduna, with the latest being that of Zaria.
The PDP therefore called on the governor and his household to stop making statements that have the potential of aggravating the security situation in the face of avalanche of ineptitude, as innocent people are being harassed, kidnapped and even killed as a show of strength by the bandits.
On the sacking of workers, the PDP regretted that as it is now, available data released by the Nigerian Labour Congress, Kaduna State Chapter, 77,000 civil servants have so far been laid off by Governor el-Rufai without paying attention to the Extant Civil Service Rules, with most of them yet to be paid their entitlement, with tuition fee in tertiary institution arbitrary increased between 300 and 500 percent.
