Students of Kaduna State University, KASU, have called for a reversal of the decision of the University management to increase the tuition fees from 26 thousand naira to one hundred thousand naira for the returning students.
The President, National Association of Science Students, Kaduna State University Chapter, Abubakar Buhari Lodna, made the call at a one-day monthly forum with media practitioners on peace journalism in Kaduna.
He said the increment would make students to drop out, leading to more problems in the society.
Lodna maintained that the association contributes money to offset tuition fees of some of its members prior to the upward review by the management of the University.
The Association’s President who said they learnt that the payment of the new tuition fees is expected to be made in three instalments of 40,000 naira, wondered how students who could not afford paying tuition fees when it was still 26,000 naira could now afford the new fees.
He further appealed to the State government to look into the plight of parents and students with a view to averting an imminent collapse of the education in the name of reforms.
