May 17th every year is observed as International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOTB).
The day was created in 2004 to draw the attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex people and all other people with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics.
The date was chosen to commemorate World Health Organization’s (WHO), decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990.
Invicta FM Correspondent, Ango Bally spoke to Professor Hauwa’u Evelyn Yusuf, Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Kaduna State University, KASU, on the sideline of this year’s global theme: Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing.
